Scientists say they have developed a tiny blood-testing device that sits under the skin and gives instant results via a mobile phone. The Swiss team say the wireless prototype - half an inch (14mm) long - can simultaneously check for up to five different substances in the blood.

In the Internet industry, you’re basically a custodian of your own idea for maybe three to five years and then you’re supposed to sell. That’s insanity.

Very cool shots of these fascinating creatures

Ania Rogala (Poland)

Ania Rogala is an artist with a crazy fascination for almost every subject and technique. While she develops amazing skills for landscape paintings with acrylic, watercolor and oil, she is also very talented with the brush, the ink splattering for abstract renderings. But the most important themes of Ania’s works are people - their bodies, faces and spirits.

Tucano Cuckoo Clocks (2012) by Gumdesign and Vhernier / De Vecchi

The Tucano Cuckoo Wall Clock is a reinterpretation of Gumdesign’s Cucù Improbabile clock.  While the original was a concept design that was plated in silver and lacked any hour or minute hands, the Tucano is a functioning clock. Produced by the Italian jewelry brand Vhernier / De Vecchi the three PVD coatings in metallic tones whisper luxurious elegance while the orange hands and rounded corners offer a cool retro touch.

Most recently, she has designed the Sylva Solar Food Dryer to sell to small-scale farmers who can use it to add value to their produce.
“We train the farmers to dry vegetables, fruits and legumes using the solar driers which we invented so that they feed into the export market. So far we have trained these farmers, more than 10,000 of them,” the entrepreneur said.
Having started, as she puts it, “with no budget, just the skill… and the desire”, what advice does she have for people who want to open their own businesses?
“You need to know what you want to do, first of all, in life. Secondly, you have to be determined. Of course, it’s not easy to run a business but you have to be determined and focused.
“And, also, try to learn things and then expand upon them… Those innovations are the ones that can help you to grow your business. Of course, competition is there but don’t worry about it, just perfect your business”, she said.
